PAL Ottawa is pleased to announce the establishment of a fund dedicated to the realization of a unique and ambitious housing project to be known as Performing Arts Lodge Ottawa.
The “PAL Ottawa Memorial Building Fund” will play a supporting role in advancing plans that have grown from enterprising alliances with housing experts, community groups and cultural industry partners. The goal is the eventual acquisition of an existing residential complex or purpose-built dwelling in Ottawa.
“This fund will add momentum to our drive to provide affordable, quality rental accommodations for senior members of the local creative community,” stated the Chair of PAL Ottawa, actor Peter Haworth. “The majority have earned far less than most Canadians given the precarious nature of a career in the arts. We intend to offer them a home where Act IV of their lives will be spent in a comfortable, sociable and supportive setting.”
The memorial fund has been set up with a $5000 donation from PAL Ottawa member Neil Kelly in memory of our many friends and loved ones who have taken their final bow, yet will never be forgotten. The initial gift will also serve as “seed” money to encourage future donations from those who wish to honour the contribution made to Canadian culture by local actors, dancers, writers, visual artists, musicians, and various supporting casts behind the scenes.
Established in 2012, PAL Ottawa is affiliated with seven other chapters across Canada, two of which (Toronto and Vancouver) have built their own performing arts lodges.
Tax-deductible donations to the “PAL Ottawa Memorial Building Fund” may be made through:
